Why do we do the things we do? Why do we continually make such a mess of
things?
Temptation
by Terrance Watson
We are constantly faced with a choice to do good or do evil. At least
that’s what they say. But maybe it’s not that simple. A man will gladly
cheat his brother, but he will never cheat himself. He’d cheat a cousin
before he’d cheat a brother. A man will cheat his neighbor before he’d cheat
his cousin. He would chose his neighbor over a stranger from his town, a
local stranger before a stranger from another city, and a stranger of his
country over one from another land. One from another religion, race or color
will always receive less honesty than one of our own. All it would take
is a little bit of profit and morality flies out the window.
Prophets
The great men of the ages tried to warn us about this side of our natures.
Buddha, Mohamed, Jesus, they were trying to warn us, teach us of a better
way. But we don’t listen. But the lessons don’t stick. It isn’t even a huge
evil we have to fall to. Just a small desire. A tiny advantage you convince
yourself you have some kind of right or need to.
Good and Evil
In the end there are no good people. None are evil, no not one. Just ordinary
humans, looking for the main chance, and convincing themselves they have
the right to more than the next human.
Events
This is how an uneducated man can kill a child. An educated man can cheat a whole city. And a leader can enslave a nation.
